DOOM Grenade 3D Model

My DOOM Grenade 3D model is based off the 2016 DOOM reboot grenade concept art by Jason Borne https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3Rwzo. This project was a challenge to create a hard surface model based on a 2D concept.

The process of creating this model was first set in Maya 3D Software, where I would begin creating the model using methods such as booleans and baking. At first, I encountered issues with UV and edges being either too soft or hard, but I managed to resolve most of those issues. After the base model was sculpted into what I had liked, I took the next step and brought it over to Adobe Substance Painter.

The texturing process was a little tricky at first as the UV created issues and some edges of the mesh became too stuck out. Resolving that issue, I then proceeded to use plastic and metal textures to get a matte and glossy finish. I went for a mixture of a concept art colour scheme and the colour scheme of the final in-game grenade of DOOM 2016. To enhance the worn down look of the grenade I black masked and painted metal scratches, dirt and even fingerprints to give the effect that it had been handles in battle, knowing the DOOM Slayer can get busy with his weaponry.

Lastly, I again opted to combine concept art and the in-game model to place stickers. Looking back, I would change some of the decal to fit the DOOM universe more, however it didn't turn out too differently from what I was going for. Thank you for checking out my model.
